Advance to Candidacy

2021-22 Tuition and Fees for Full-Time Ph.D. Candidates Advanced to Candidacy

When students pass their respective qualifying examination, they should complete the Advancement to Candidacy application form. The student may submit the completed application when the graduate advisor, major professor, and graduate program coordinator have signed it and the candidacy fee has been paid at the Cashier's Office.  The student must registered full-time to advance to candidacy.

CHARGES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.  Some or all instruction for all or part of the Academic Year may be delivered remotely.  Tuition and fees have been set regardless of the method of instruction and will not be refunded in the event instruction occurs remotely for any part of the Academic Year.  Figures for tuition and fees represent currently approved or proposed amounts and may not be final.  Actual tuition and fees are subject to change by the University of California as determined to be necessary or appropriate.  Final approved tuition and fee levels may differ from the amounts presented.

*These fees apply to residents and nonresidents. 

All graduate academic students will be charged an additional one-time Candidacy Fee upon advancing to candidacy. The Candidacy Fee is $90 for PhD students and $55 for Master’s students. The $159 International Student Administrative Fee for graduate international students will be charged one-time to all newly admitted graduate international students who are either sponsored by UC Davis for F-1 or J-1 status or would be sponsored by UC Davis for F-1 or J-1 status if physically present in the U.S. More information about the International Student Administrative Fee is available at Services for International Students and Scholars' Fees & Tuition page.

[1] The University of California Regents mandates that all students have health insurance. UC Davis automatically enrolls all registered students in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP). If students have comparable insurance and do not want to be enrolled in UC SHIP, they must apply for a UC SHIP waiver by the date specified for their school.
